carne asada tacos

Carne Asada Tacos served with fresh guacamole, chopped onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. Soy -citrus marinated flank steak with onions, garlic, spices, cilantro and olive oil grilled to medium rare that’s sliced against the grain and chopped into bite-sized cubes stuffed into warmed corn tortillas to make the best Mexican inspired tacos.

carne asada tacos

Carne Asada is one of our absolute favorites. I love taking a beautiful piece of flank steak and infusing it with fresh citrus and herb flavors with a hint of sweetness from the sugar and soy sauce to give it a beautiful seared crust. This humble marinated  steak recipe creates tender and juicy steak that is excellent served in tacos.

STEAK TIPS

Flank steak is lean, contains almost no fat, and is tougher than your traditional grilling high end steak, however the meat becomes nice and tender when properly prepared and takes really well to marinades. This is definitely what you want to use for tacos, fajitas, salads or to just grill and throw a summer salsa or chimichurri overtop. When you first go to prepare the marinade, let the steak come to room temperature by letting it sit out for about 30 minutes, once you’ve seasoned it and its sitting in the mix, it needs at least 2 hours to tenderize and take on some of that flavour. I definitely don’t recommend letting it sit overnight with lime juice as it will start to brown the beef and cook. So if you are wanting it to rest overnight, omit the lime juice and just add that in a few minutes before grilling while the grill reaches its temperature. After you’ve grilled the meat, let it rest for 10 minutes so that the juices can redistribute throughout the steak and you get that beautiful pink color.

I kept this recipe pretty simple because I want to highlight and showcase those beautiful chunks of perfectly cooked steak. I garnished it with just some finely diced white onion, lots of cilantro, served it with some homemade guac and a squeeze of lime. Avocado and steak is such a good combination, it brings some fresh, creamy flavors and textures to the tacos, its the perfect compliment. Of course i love to drizzle on a good sauce because I am a bit of a sauce boss. I paired these tacos with just a store bought mango habanero hot sauce to give it a spicy kiss.
