pumpkin sour

A classic bourbon sour gets an autumnal twist, made with real pumpkin puree and a homemade pumpkin spice simple syrup.

Ingredients

  • per 1 cocktail
  • 2 oz Bourbon or whiskey
  • 2 oz lemon juice
  • 1.5 oz egg white
  • 1 oz pumpkin spice syrup
  • 1 tsp pumpkin puree
  • dash of bitters
  • garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar

  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup water
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp all spice
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground clove
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients into a shaker, add ice and shake vigorously for 45 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass without ice. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

Notes

To make the syrup: In a saucepan bring sugar and water to a slow boil. Stir occasionally. Once the sugar has dissolved, add the pumpkin puree and spices. Stir until fully incorporated. About 4 minutes taste and adjust the pumpkin spice at this point. Transfer to a glass jar and let cool.
