burnt orange breakfast margarita

Freshly squeezed orange juice mixed with tequila, simple syrup, lime juice and a salty burnt orange rim.

Ingredients

  • Zest 1 large orange
  • 6-8 oranges juiced
  • 3 limes juiced
  • Reposado tequila
  • Agave or simple syrup
  • coarse salt
  • ice
  • optional: dehydrated orange wheel garnish

Instructions

  • 1. To make the burnt orange rim: add zest of 1 orange into a small saucepan. Cook on low for 5-7 minutes until the colour begins to deepen and appear toasted. Stir occasionally. Remove from the pan and mix with 1/2 tsp of coarse salt on a shallow plate.
  • 2. Juice oranges and add to a blender. Blend for 1 minute. This will create a thin frothy layer when pouring into drink.
  • 3. To make the cocktail: build in glass already rimmed. Fill with ice, pour 1 1/2 ounce shot of tequila, 1 oz of fresh lime juice, .25 oz of agave. Fill with fresh orange juice and stir to combine. Serve immediately.
